About the Mazda RX-7 Spirit R

The Spirit R was the last FD RX-7 Mazda built โ€” 1500 cars in 2002, sold only in Japan, to close out the model. Type A cars got Recaro seats, a five-speed manual, red-painted brake calipers, 17-inch BBS wheels and a bespoke serialised interior plaque. Mechanically it is the final Series 8 specification: 280 hp from the sequential twin-turbo 13B-REW.

Investment Grade ยท Legendary

The Mazda RX-7 Spirit R (2002) has achieved legendary status in the JDM collector market โ€” bulletproof reliability (55/10) that owners routinely daily-drive, low running costs (82/10 maintenance), and parts remain widely available (55/10). Its RWD layout is a core part of the driving character buyers pay a premium for. Its holy-grail status means clean, unmolested examples surface only a handful of times a year worldwide. On the numbers, values have climbed a steep +25.0% over the last 12 months and a rarity score of 63/100 keeps good cars in short supply, so expect a real premium for unmodified, low-mileage examples. Widely considered one of the safest long-term holds in the JDM space.
